Voting Rights for All Conference 2014

North Carolina citizens were subject to the most restrictive voting laws in the country as a result of legislation passed in 2013. As a response, Methodist Federation for Social Action – North Carolina Conference chapter (MFSA-NCC) organized a conference titled “Voting Rights for All.”

This conference was part of the Jack Crum Conference on Prophetic Ministry and took place on September 20th at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church in Durham, NC. Some of the sessions included background of North Carolina’s restrictive voting laws as provided by Sen. Ellie Kinnaird and discussion on defense of voting rights led by Bob Hall from Democracy NC. Jay Gladieux from Common Cause NC provided insight about impact of gerrymandering of legislative districts in North Carolina. The conference also included speeches by Jeremy Collins from Southern Coalition for Social Justice and Rev. Anthony Spearman who is a pastor at St. Philip A.M.E. Zion Church in Greensboro, NC.
